The first round of the CIF playoffs are in the books and in Division 1, the most intriguing 2nd round matchup pairs La Costa Canyon against arch rival Torrey Pines.

On Friday, the Falcons beat a pesky Otay Ranch opponent, 27-17. Runningback Joseph Driscoll led the Falcons in rushing, running 18 times for 103 yards and 1 touchdown. Falcons quarterback John Cabot looked good and threw for 173 yards.

Torrey Pines now advances to face La Costa Canyon at La Costa in the quarterfinals. The two teams battled just two week ago, with La Costa Canyon outdoing Torrey Pines 30-20. With a semi-final appearance at stake and bragging rights on the line, expect a raucous environment and a physical game. La Costa Canyon has not lost in almost 2 seasons.

Other division 1 playoff scores from Friday night:

Fallbrook 7 - Rancho Bernardo 6
Mira Mesa 48 - Carlsbad 29
El Camino 31 - Chula Vista 7

Second round (quarterfinal) matchups in Division 1:

Mira Mesa @ Escondido

Let's see how rusty La Costa is after a week off. TP will be fired up for this game.

Last time torrey did a good job early at keeping the d off of their qb. LCC needs to establish there defensive prowess early and find a way to run the ball effectively ...FOR THE ENTIRE GAME!!!! Torrey may be fired up but I think two weeks to prepare for a team that they already know extremely well, combined with the fact that tp found a way to shut them down in the second half should give LCC plenty of motivation to make up for their rustiness.
