Chula Vista (2-0) travels north to take on #1 ranked La Costa Canyon (2-0). The Spartans have opened up the 2009 season with two straight victories -- a 49-10 romp over Castle Park and 49-14 beating of Sweetwater. The opponents do not represent the skill level of some of the top North County powerhouses. Tonight's game will determine whether Chula Vista is a serious contender, or a South County pretender.

Spartans QB Victor Perez is the star of the offense, throwing for 316 yards and five scores. The team has rushed for 409 yards and 7.3 yards per carry. They will look to run against the La Costa Canyon defense.

LCC has rolled up 84 points in wins over Salinas (54-20) and Carlsbad (30-10). The Mavericks have 691 total yards. QB Garrett Krstich has passed for 278. Kenny Stills has six catches for 144 yards and TD catches of 64 and 38 yards, plus a 99-yard kickoff return last week against Carlsbad. The offensive line has suffered injuries, but was successful again Carlsbad.

Look for Stills and Krstich to have another big game together.

Prediction: La Costa Canyon 38, Chula Vista 14
