Twelve years after La Costa Canyon snapped its first football, the Mavericks have finally reached the promised land, Qualcomm stadium.

In an exciting semifinal matchup, the Mavericks attacked the Carlsbad Lancers on all fronts, downing their cross town foes 33-14.

The Maverick offense attacked with multiple weapons, the offesnive assault led by Seth Hanson who rushed for 101 yards and 2 touchdowns. Sebastian Frausto connected with Kenny Stills for a touchdown, and Frausto rushed for another.

After the Lancers recovered a Maverick fumble on the first play of the game, and later capitalized for a touchdown, the Mavericks responded with a Robert Zalud field goal. One Kenny Stills touchdown later, the Mavericks went into halftime up 17-7.

After a 3rd quarter stalemate, the Maverick offense broke loose and the defense tightened. Dutch Hapgood and Jacob Driver powered a swarming defense. Michael Kaiser and Adam Witzmann pressured Carlsbad quarterback Mike Leaonard all night. Zalud kicked another field goal, and the Mavericks pounded the ball for 2 more rushing touchdowns.

The Lancers scored a touchdown with 1:44 remaining but by that time the game was already over.

Coach Darrin Brown got the Gatorade shower and the Maverick faithful rushed the field. The La Costa Canyon Mavericks are headed to the "Q" to take on.......... drum roll...... the Escondido Cougars, who squeezed by Mission Hills 21-11.

The 1 and 2 seeds will battle eachother next week at Qualcomm Stadium for the division 1 CIF championship.
